Project Recap
Design Tree was entrusted with the remodel of three schools within the St. Cloud Area School District 742, affectionately known as "The Triplets" due to their similar layouts and systems. The schools included Oak Hill Community School (PK-5), Talahi Community School (PK-3), and Discovery Community School (PK-5). This description highlights our work on Talahi Community School, where our strengths were put to the test.
Faced with a tight timeline due to funding, the project needed to be completed by the end of summer 2022, with a notice to proceed in summer 2021. Adding to the complexity, this project occurred amidst post-COVID-19 inventory issues, leading to significant lead times for essential equipment like air handling units and electrical panels.
Design Tree rose to the occasion by compressing a six-month design cycle into just two months, allowing the district to avoid preparing individual equipment packages. Our team developed a procurement strategy through Omnia Partners to secure equipment ahead of contract documents, ensuring timely delivery for the "summer slam" construction in 2022. This strategy enabled purchase orders to be received and reviewed within a day, a critical factor in meeting the project's tight deadlines.
The projects at Oak Hill and Discovery, advanced in 2023, followed a similar scope, involving mechanical and electrical improvements. To creatively address these challenges, Design Tree designed systems to reuse existing electrical panels and switchgear temporarily while new equipment was procured.
This project underscores Design Tree's agility, flexibility, and creativity in solving complex technical and administrative problems. We successfully delivered high-quality solutions for our client during uncertain times and within challenging construction budgets.
