Quarryview Early Education Center
Waite Park, MN
Challenge:
The St. Cloud Area School District’s Early Childhood and Community Education programs were distributed throughout the district and short on space. The programs were moved around from various locations throughout the district with the situation made worse by a lightning induced fire at a school that housed the early childhood program. The site that was ultimately selected is also the existing home of the Discovery Elementary School.
Solution/What Worked:
Parking, site circulation, and site safety was a paramount consideration during design. Since bus, vehicle, and pedestrian access and circulation are different for the each one of the school buildings on this campus the parking lots, drives and bus chutes were designed to provide separation while considering smooth flow.
Fun Fact:
The original site considered for the Quarryview Early Childhood and Community Education Building was Clark Field where the St. Cloud Tech Tigers played for decades. This site was taken out of consideration when a grass-roots community effort made their voices heard to preserve the beloved field.
