Project Recap
Design Tree Engineering led the upgrade of the existing football and sports facilities at Eden Prairie High School Campus. The project was strategically phased to maximize usage for student athletes and leverage summer construction. In the first phase, Design Tree designed and managed the construction of two athletic fields, including the stadium and the indoor/outdoor practice field. This involved the installation of a drain field and coordination with the district's drainage consultant. During construction, the track was protected to ensure its rubberized surface could be utilized in the spring.

The second phase, implemented the following summer, focused on the track and pavement reconstruction. The design included upgrades to the track and field facilities, pathways, and irrigation. During construction, it was discovered that the underlying soils beneath the track surface were insufficient for the long-term viability of the track pavement system. Design Tree and Eden Prairie Schools pivoted to a full-depth reconstruction of the track surface, incorporating a subsoil drainage layer. Given the poor-draining clay soils of the site, Design Tree partnered with Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District to develop a phased solution for stormwater quality that met and exceeded stormwater management requirements for the reconstruction effort.

Looking ahead, Design Tree and Eden Prairie High School plan to implement a Water Reuse System to supplement irrigation with locally available stormwater, potentially saving over 300,000 gallons of irrigation water annually. This project underscores our team's ability to deliver optimal outcomes for our clients through unforeseen circumstances, challenging regulatory environments, and constrained budgets.
